The creation of this car is attributed to Lewis D. Crusoe, former General Motors executive, George Walker, vice president of Ford, and Frank Hershey, designer of Ford. It entered the production for the year 1955 as a two-seater sports car model, but, unlike the similar Chevrolet Corvette, the Thunderbird was never sold as a true sports car. Ford described it as a personal luxury car, a description that named a new segment of the market.
