Considered by crews as one of the most demanding and challenging events in Europe and a definite to be ticked on your “must do” events list! HERO’s Land’s End to John O’Groats Reliability Trial is open to cars of a specification built before 1986. Running in December, tough conditions are to be expected, but no-one crosses the finish line without a smile on their face. The event has been tackled and completed by novice crews in the past, however, we would recommend undertaking less advanced events as a preparatory measure prior to competing on Le Jog.

This year sees the Silver Jubilee running of LE JOG and that means a very special, traditional (and, as always, tough) event is in store. The 25th running will pay homage to the original ‘93 event and include numerous locations which have not been visited recently, together with one or two completely new roads and venues. To ensure the best possible event takes place, HERO have persuaded John Kiff to return to the route planner’s role that he held from 2011 to 2014. John was the only Gold medal winning navigator on the original LE JOG in 1993 and was the first person to also win a Gold medal as a driver (with his brother Rob) in their 1958 VW Beetle in 2003.

From the Land’s End start, the event will see swift progress up through South-West England and across the Severn Bridge into Wales for a long night using some of the best lanes the country has to offer. To make up for the long night, a little extra time will be allowed in bed near Chester before a traditional ‘LE JOG Sunday’ over the moors and fells – and via the pubs – of the ‘spine of England’. A good night’s rest at the Border will prepare crews for the 24 plus hours up through Scotland. An early start will enable crews to see more of this beautiful country in daylight as we visit classic sections and traditional locations – but also some that have been rarely used. After battling the roads and elements, weary crews will then experience that special LE JOG euphoria as they cross the finish line to strains of the piper and the wave of the chequered flag.

As is traditional, LE JOG will be about straightforward and unambiguous plotting, accurate map-reading and route-finding together with precision test-driving and, of course, reliability and endurance! Gold medals will be as hard to come by as ever! To read more about the first Land’s End to John o’Groat’s Reliability Trial in 1993
